Ontario Curriculum Expectations: Arts Expectations
Some finished self-portraits
Below are the self-portraits from the students who have finished so far. To complete their Visual Arts work, the students also wrote a Visual Arts Reflection (scroll to the bottom of this page, titled "Visual Arts Reflection", for the questions the students use to help reflect about their work). Click on a photo to see the complete picture, and an enlarged view. (June 25, 2013)
Colouring our self-portraits
Some of the students have finished sketching their self-portraits with pencil. The next step was to trace over the pencil with permanent black marker. Other students have been colouring every detail with crayons. Click on the photos to see an enlarged view. (June 23, 2013)
Self-Portraits
The students have been drawing self-portraits. The hands and feet have been traced to show perspective and emphasis. The rest of the picture is drawn on a smaller scale. Details are added to the foreground and background. After the pencil sketches are complete the students traced the pencil lines with a permanent black marker, and finally coloured with crayons. Click on the photos to see an enlarged view. (June 18, 2013)
Integrating Visual Arts with Social Studies/Science
The Grade 2's made plasticine pictures (left photo, first 2 columns) of Zimbabwe as part of our social studies unit. The Grade 3's made plasticine pictures showing the parts of a plant as part of our science unit. The left photo shows the display in the hallway and the right photo shows the display in our classroom. Click on the photo to see an enlarged view. (June 14, 2013)
Integrating Visual Arts and Language
The students have been making 3D masks of the animal they have chosen from a book called "The Name of the Tree". We have been reading this book to think about point of view during our Language lessons. (April 30, 2013)
